A Rare Disease Named Mesothelioma
Malignant mesothelioma is a rare cancer form that occurs in the organ linings of the body. This may include belly, chest as well as lungs and heart. The cancer is so called as the lining is commonly called mesothelium. The cells of the lining are adept at the secretion of a fluid for better movement of organs. This helps organs that move like heart as well as lungs to function well and reduces friction.

Mesothelioma is a rare cancerous disease and as the name implies the cells divide uncontrollably and continuously thus invading the neighbouring tissues and cells. Hence the organs that are protected by the mesothelium also get affected due to the invasion. In maximum cases of mesothelioma cancer, the lungs get affected. The organ lining of the lungs is commonly called pleural membrane. Pleural mesothelium is the maximum affected form of the disease. This is because of the asbestos association.

Mesothelioma occurs due to excess exposure to asbestos and such substances. Maximum people who get this disease have been affected due to exposure to asbestos in industries or factories. Asbestos is found un factories as it helps in the manufacture of things such as textiles , cement, flooring's, brake linings and insulation.

It was first diagnosed in England where the workers of an asbestos factory died due to this disease that affected their lungs. Thus the disease was first referred to as asbestosis. Almost 50 years later the disease was properly studied and the proper reasons for its contraction were known.
